The City of Tallahassee will close administrative offices in observance of the Independence Day holiday on Friday, July 4. Following are details about the City's Celebrate America event and schedule changes for the week of June 29 through July 5 for solid waste customers living inside the Tallahassee city limits, StarMetro, the Animal Service Center and City-run community centers.

Celebrate America at Tom Brown Park

The City's Celebrate America event will take place at Tom Brown Park on Friday, July 4, from 6-10 p.m. Enjoy live entertainment from the School of Arts & Sciences rock band, Eleven O Five and The Funky Taters with Lili Forbes leading up to a spectacular, patriotic fireworks display at 9:50 p.m.

There will be food trucks and activities for children at the event. Attendees are also welcome to pack a picnic.

For more information, please contact the City's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department at 850-891-3866 or visit the Celebrate America page.

Garbage and Recycling Collection

During the holiday week, Friday residential customers will receive service one day later than their regularly scheduled service. This includes garbage / recycling and yard waste / bulky pickup, which will impact blue week customers:

  • Monday customers ► No change
  • Tuesday customers ► No change
  • Wednesday customers ► No change
  • Thursday customers ► No change
  • Friday customers ► Saturday, July 5

Commercial service will run as regularly scheduled.

Customers are now encouraged to set their collection bins behind the curb the night before their service day. Both containers should be returned to the home no later than the day after collection. To look up collection dates for specific addresses and get more information, visit Talgov.com/YOU or call 850-891-4968.

StarMetro Routes

StarMetro will change its operations for the holiday. On Friday, July 4, fixed routes will operate on a Sunday schedule with no night service, Dial-A-Ride will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the StarMetro call center will be staffed from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, July 4, StarMetro will provide free shuttles to Celebrate America, picking riders up in the parking lot at the former Sears, 1500 Apalachee Parkway. Dial-A-Ride will be available on the same shuttle route. Shuttle service to Tom Brown Park begins at 6 p.m. and will end at 8:30 p.m. Shuttles will begin running for return service from Tom Brown Park to the former Sears parking lot following the fireworks show with service ending around 11 p.m. Shuttle service will not be operational during the fireworks show.

For more information, visit Talgov.com/StarMetro or call StarMetro at 850-891-5200.

Animal Services

The Animal Service Center will be closed on Friday, July 4. Normal hours will resume on Saturday, July 5, with the center opening at 10 a.m. for appointments with walk-in kennel viewings available from 1-5 p.m. Customers needing more information, including photos of animals available for adoption and to report lost and found pets, may visit Talgov.com/Animals or contact the Animal Service Center at 850-891-2950.

City Animal Control will be available for emergency situations only on Friday, July 4, and can be reached via the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800.

City-run Community Centers

Community centers operated by the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department will be closed on Friday, July 4. Centers will resume normal hours on Friday, July 5.

Additionally, some amenities in Tom Brown Park will be impacted by the Celebrate America event. The dog park will be closed on July 4 and will reopen at 7 a.m. on July 5. The disc golf course will remain open for limited use on July 4, with some holes not playable due to event activities.
