Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are all cold cases considered homicide investigations?
Not all cold cases are homicide investigations. Some cold cases are missing person investigations in which the subject is missing and there are no active leads.
2. What are the requirements to label a case as “cold”?
The requirements to label a case as “cold” vary from agency to agency. In the case of the Big Bend Cold Task Force, a case is “cold” if all viable investigative leads have been exhausted. This means all witnesses have been located and interviewed, all tips followed-up on, and all evidence processed to the fullest extent. This could mean that a case could be “cold” after only a few months to a year or it could be “cold” after being investigated for several years.
3. I have information on a homicide or a missing person. How can I report a tip?
You can contact the Big Bend Cold Case Task Force directly by calling 850-410-7611, calling each of the individual Law Enforcement Partners whom are the investigating agency over the “cold” case, or by contacting the Big Bend Crime Solvers by calling 850-574-8477.
